Stress doesn’t have to control your life. No one needs to live in the constant state of stress that so many people have come to accept as normal. There are changes that you can make, starting right now, that will dramatically alter the amount of stress in your life and the effects of it. Keep reading for ways that you can get started.
A journal can help reduce stress. All it takes is a pen and paper and a few minutes to write down whatever is bothering you. Often just getting it out on paper puts things in a better perspective. Writing about our problems releases emotions that may otherwise be pent up, thus increasing our stress levels. Furthermore, seeing our problems on paper can sometimes allow us to see possible solutions to our problems.
Getting plenty of quality sleep will counteract the stress of what ever your daily life brings. It sounds simple enough, but most people fail to get enough basic sleep let alone quality sleep and that is the way your body recovers from your hard day at work, keeping after the children or the million other ways you spend your waking time!
A very simple way to reduce stress is to start your day ten or fifteen minutes earlier. By giving yourself that extra few minutes each day, you’ll have time to sit and enjoy your cup of coffee or give you a head start on your commute so you won’t have to battle traffic, therefore reducing your stress level. That extra time also gives you a chance to catch up on things that might not have gotten done the previous day. It’s amazing what a few short minutes each day can do for your stress levels!
Make sure to keep your preventive health care up-to-date so you won’t be worried about possible medical problems. Questions regarding your health can be nerve-wracking, along with not taking preventive measures for your health that can harm you later. So go for regular checkups and medical appointments to keep your mind and body healthy, and keep stress to a minimum!
Limit the amount of alcohol that you drink during the course of the night when at the bar or club. When you consume alcohol, your stress levels will go up and you will become flustered quicker. Instead, drink soda or a fruit drink if you want to limit your stress.
A great tip that can help you keep your stress levels down is to start practicing deep breathing exercises. Deep breathing exercises are a form of mediation and they allow you to feel more relaxed and peaceful. You’ll notice your heart rate slowing down and you’ll feel much better.
Avoid stress when possible! High blood pressure can be the direct result of too much stress in our lives. It is, of course, natural to experience a short-term spike in blood pressure under stressful situations. Think, for example, about a typical trip to the doctor’s office. Many people experience such as spike under such conditions. Long term elevation in blood pressure due to stress, however, is considerably more concerning!
